You’re Invited: Interventions for Ending Online Violence Against Women in Politics
Hey Checklisters, join us this Thursday on Zoom to launch
Interventions for Ending Online Violence Against Women in Politics
Thursday, January 19th at 10-11am ET
Meedan and the National Democratic Institute (NDI) are inviting you to the virtual launch of the Interventions for Ending Online Violence Against Women in Politics on Thursday, January 19th at 10-11am ET. Online violence against women in politics (OVAW-P) poses a deepening challenge to democracy, serving as a key tool of illiberalism and democratic backsliding across the globe, with a chilling effect on the political ambitions and engagement of women and girls. Stopping gender-based attacks online is a solvable problem, and it is the fastest and clearest investment toward building an internet that enables everyone to be politically engaged.
Through a series of roundtable conversations with survivors, activists, and representatives from the tech sector, NDI and Meedan have developed an interventions list as a menu of survivor-centered solutions to online violence and gendered disinformation that civil society, as well as governments and tech platforms, can adopt and tailor to fit each country’s political and legal context. The interventions are available in English, Arabic, French, Portuguese, Spanish, and Ukrainian. Please join us to explore how you can apply these interventions in your work and how they can be integrated in your programming for contextually relevant and impactful solutions.
The event will feature an introduction to the list by Sandra Pepera, Senior Associate & Director of NDI’s Gender, Women & Democracy team, followed by a panel discussion among international experts in the field moderated by Kat Lo, Content Moderation Program Lead at Meedan. The discussion will open to the audience and conclude with Q&A. We invite you to come prepared to ask questions, share your thoughts, and learn about how these interventions can support your work.
Please register for the event by completing the RSVP form, and we will send you a Google calendar invitation. Interpretation services will be provided. We look forward to seeing you there!
